Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they indicate for your Internet site?
A password-protected directory is a folder that can't be accessed unless the correct login credentials are offered. This can be a whole website or simply one page that's located within a subfolder. If you try to open such a directory, you'll see a browser pop-up where you must type a username and also a password. If you input the right ones, you'll be able to continue browsing the content without needing to do anything more. If the login details are not accurate, however, you will see a note that you aren't allowed to see the content. If this feature is activated, you will not be able to open a file even if you have a direct link. The option is incredibly effective if you'd like to limit the access to some content or if you work on a site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it before it's ready.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take merely several mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites within a cloud hosting account with us. You'll not need to do anything challenging - you'll have to choose a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it has to be secured, and then to type the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. In case a number of people need their own login details, there shall not be a problem to make several different usernames with access to the exact same folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you will always know where this function is active. If you want to turn off the security feature for any folder, you can deactivate it from the exact same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
